    Hello all!
New member here! Can't wait to get started....Dory and I competed in Dock Dog last year at the Cabela competition. Maybe we saw some of you there? Dory loved it and was the smallest pup there, standing 10.5 inches tall! She had no fear and diving was her game! :0)

HI, I am interested in joining a team of dock dogs. I have a 13 mos. old yellow lab. I have never run him on a dock but get comments a lot about his running into the ocean and bounding into the sea to get his stick. he is bulky and strong and has great "springs". how do I begin? I would love to start right away... =)

    Hi Laurie!

Looks like we are the newbies around here...and it doesn't look like many post yet....season is young...LOL
The hardest part is getting them to jump off the dock from the 2' drop. Has your Lab ever jumped off a dock into the water?

Hello, we are just starting to finish up the dock and are looking into planning when all the practices the starting practice looks to be around the end of April, or beginning of May.
    Looking forward to this year

    The dock looks GReat!

Can you describe it a bit....do the dog jump into the middle of the rectangle area?

I have an 11 year old Senior Golden that loves to jump....Do they have to swim back to shore to get out of the water or is there a ramp to climb back onto the dock?

    Looking forward to meeting everyone!

My 2 year old Small Munsterlander loves the water but will not jump off the boat dock in our town. He whines and cries and then runs around to walk in and swim out to get the toy that has been thrown off the dock. Can he still be taught to jump and how?

I think he would love it and he needs an activity.
    thanks, Mary W.

I think that he would jump. I have seen it in other dogs, after a few times on the dock they started to jump.

    Hi there!
I joined at the get together at the Berwick Town Hall and I'm really looking forward to trying this with my labs - not sure what they'll think of jumping off the dock but we'll see.

I will be at the practice on May 15. My problem is that my dog, Madison, is barky and sometimes snarly, even around kindly labs and goldens. I'm trying to get her to be less reactive to other dogs by treating her when she sees one.
I suppose I could avoid all this (and the cost of a dog behaviorist and the cost of doggie anti-anxiety meds)and just sit home but Madison is such a great little jumper . . .

    To Mary W,
I have watched many newbie dogs trained to jump off of a dock while a member of Hudson Valley Dockdogs. Lie down on your stomach and put the toy in the water just out of your dog's reach. Splash the water, excitedly encourage him to get the toy. Block his ability to get the toy from shore. The goal is for him to slip or tumble into the water because he badly wants the toy and is overreaching for it. A frustrated dog who barks and whines, like yours, is the one who has drive and will finally jump. Repeat the little slips into the water and then gradually go bigger. The experts say never touch your dog to get him to jump.

We were just about to try both of our dogs (Howie and Mya)for a second time when I fell down and hurt myself. I appreciate all the kindness and empathy from all of you at dock dogs that day. I did go to the ER and low and behold my leg was broken. It will be awhile before I can help my dogs in this activity. You all are such a wonderful bunch of people. See you soon!

We too had a great time at yesterday Fun Jump! I really appreciate the amount of time and commitment that you all put into this club. Everyone associated with Seacoast Dock Dogs is encouraging, patient and knowledgeable! If anyone wants to give this a try this is the club to belong to….if your dog even things he might not want to jump, no worries Lou will persuade him into taking that first leap! Thank you for all your help Lou..and Kim for your inspiration!

We are so grateful to have become part of this organization! This is something that we are all going to look forward to every weekend! Everyone involved is super nice and helpful! Thank you so much for welcoming us into the club! And we can't wait to see if Molly, our 1.5 year old German Shorthaired Pointer, likes it just as much as her big sister Abby...we hope to bring her along for the next practice!
    See you all soon!
